A small sample rarely tells the whole story. Compare the movement, colour and character of individual slabs, then confirm which pieces suit your benchtop layout. These links open current product listings; ask us about the slabs available for your project.

Let the slab shape
the kitchen

On an island, you see a much larger stretch of stone than a sample can show. Look at where the veining crosses the surface, how it meets a waterfall panel, and what remains after the sink or cooktop is cut out.

Marble can be considered for benchtops and splashbacks when its care requirements suit the way you use your kitchen. Acids such as lemon juice and vinegar can etch the surface, while spills can also stain. That is part of the decision before you choose a slab.

A smaller surface.
Room for character.

A bathroom vanity gives you a different way to use marble. Consider the basin position, tap holes and splashback together so the most expressive part of the slab remains visible.

Cosmetics and cleaning products still need care around natural stone. Confirm the suitability of the selected marble and finish for your bathroom, and discuss sealing, joins and wet-area details with your fabricator.

Marble may also be considered for bars, tabletops and reception counters. Choose for the actual use of the surface as well as its appearance.

Before you choose

The finish matters.
So does everyday care.

Honed or polished?

A honed finish has a lower sheen; polished marble reflects more light. Compare a finish sample with your cabinetry and lighting, and confirm the finishes available for your selected stone.

Etch marks may be less conspicuous on a honed surface. Honing does not stop marble from etching.

Staining and etching are different

A stain involves absorption into the stone. Etching is a change to the surface caused by an acidic substance and can appear as a dull mark. An appropriate impregnating sealer can help resist staining, but it does not prevent acid etching.

Use a stone-appropriate neutral cleaner, wipe up spills promptly, and use chopping boards, coasters and trivets. Confirm a care and sealing plan for the exact marble and finish.

Is marble suitable for a kitchen benchtop?

Marble can be considered for kitchen benchtops when you understand its care requirements and accept that the surface can develop marks with use. Discuss the exact slab, finish and application with your fabricator before ordering.

Will sealing stop marble from etching?

No. An appropriate impregnating sealer can help resist absorption and staining, but it does not prevent acid etching or make marble stain-proof. Ask about a sealing and care plan for your selected stone.

Should I choose honed or polished marble?

Honed marble has a lower-sheen appearance; polished marble has a reflective finish. Etching may be less conspicuous on a honed surface, but both finishes can etch. Confirm which finishes are available for the stone you choose.

Can I view the full slabs before choosing?

Yes. Book a stone viewing at StoneMart’s Narre Warren showroom. Confirm the slabs you would like to see before your visit, as individual pieces and availability can change.

What information helps with a marble supply enquiry?

Send your preferred stone, benchtop and island measurements, drawings if available, desired finish and delivery postcode. Confirm slab dimensions, quantities and availability with StoneMart, and fabrication details with your fabricator.

Does StoneMart also cut and install stone?

Yes. StoneMart provides stone cutting and installation, with the machinery, equipment and experience to manage your project from slab selection through to installation.
