Choosing natural stone is about more than finding a colour you like. The scale and direction of the veining, the amount of movement across the slab and the way different sections will be cut can all affect how the finished project looks.

Natural stone can change significantly across a single slab. One end may contain stronger grey movement while another section may be much lighter and quieter. For a kitchen island, the position of that movement can influence the final appearance once sink and cooktop cut-outs, joins and waterfall ends are taken into account.
For projects using multiple slabs, viewing them together can also help determine whether their colour and movement work well as a set. This is particularly useful before the stonemason begins fabrication, because slab layout decisions are much easier to make while the slabs are still intact.
